Traditional Campout – March 1st-3rd

Our next campout is scheduled March 1st-3rd, which is only three weekends away! The scouts are still working out details on the location of the campout, but I’m told that the theme for the weekend is simply to have a campout and have fun. Once the location is confirmed we can provide a cost, but it’s likely it may be in the $15/scout range to pay for food and campsite.

Please sign up by Feb 24th if you are interested in going. We are also looking for at least one more adult to go as well.

Scoutbook is coming!

In the next week or so please be looking for an email discussing Scoutbook, the new online tracking system for Scouts BSA. This tool will let you monitor your scout’s advancement, see their camping logs, see their scout account balance and more. We will send out an introductory email, and then you’ll receive an email invitation to sign up with an account.

Next Leadership Term is coming

The next youth leadership term is coming up starting in April. We will be taking names starting now for those interested in any position. Elections and appointments will be in March. If you have an interest in a position, start communicating with the SPL about those interests.

For those that would like to have a Leadership Project rather than a role of responsibility, please contact Mr. Wood. Remember, you can not use a leadership project for your role of responsibility requirement for Eagle.

Scout Sunday Patches

If you attended a religious ceremony, or service, on last Sunday in Uniform you are eligible to request a Scout Sunday patch. It doesn’t have to have been at IHM with the Troop. If you attended your own place of worship and would like a patch, please ask for one on the sign up form, or at the sign up sheet that will be at the next meeting on the 17th.

We will only be ordering patches for those scouts that request them.

Cub Scout Community Camp volunteers

Scouts BSA & Venturers: Are you looking for something to do over the summer? Want to get a jump start on your required school service hours for next year? Want to get to do some really, cool science experiments? Have we got the opportunity for you! Join us as a Youth Camp Staff Volunteer. While volunteering with the Cub Scouts, you will also have the option to:

  • make a minnow trap and paracord fishing lure
  • conduct water testing
  • make your own mineral kit
  • conduct an egg drop experiment
  • play wheelchair basketball
  • create your own amusement park ride
  • and take a look under the hood of a Mercedes

The camp is scheduled for June 10th-14th at MIddleton-Mills Park in Covington.

You must be at least First Class rank, or above, and be able to volunteer at least 2 out of the 5 days. Depending on the days you work you’ll also be able to work on merit badges! They are offering Cooking, Engineering, Archaeology, Disability Awareness, Weather, Automotive Maintenance, Geology, Soil & Water Conservation, Bird Study, Fishing, Communications, as well as both NOVA: Whoosh, and SuperNOVA for Engineering! (some prework may be required for several of these)

All that, and you can get service hours for school or rank advancement. This is a great opportunity. Note that scout volunteers are required to take the online BSA Youth Protection training ahead of the camp.
You can sign up on the Dan Beard website. Select “Adult Volunteer” as the option when you sign up.

If you’d like more information, please contact Mr. Wood

Crossovers

We will soon have crossover ceremonies occurring where we can make a big impression on the scouts coming into the troop, as well as the younger cubs and Webelos who are still a ways away from joining scouts. When we have several of our scouts there to take part in the ceremony it makes a big statement about the activity level of our troop and the openness of our troop.

Pack 727 will be crossing over on Sunday, Feb 24th.
Pack 122 will have a cross over on Friday, March 12th.

The PLC will be looking for volunteers to be able to attend these crossover ceremonies.
