Holy Donuts Fundraiser! – May 18th & 19th

We have plenty of slots open for the Holy Donuts fundraiser sale this coming weekend. We have some slots open on Saturday, but we have a LOT of slots open on Sunday for both shifts. We need scouts and adults to sign up for this. The funds raised in this fundraiser go to help purchasing new gear, such as the tents we need.

Get Signed up for a shift!

We really need at least 4 scouts, but preferably 6 at each shift.

Medieval Campout Cancelled

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the Medieval campout this coming weekend. We were not able to get the additional third adult we needed.

Messages!

The next troop meeting is scheduled for June 2nd, the location will be at the Sheriff’s Office. The next advancement meeting is Thursday, May 23rd at Acree Hall.

Upcoming Deadlines

  • June 30th is the deadline for adult driver volunteers to sign up for the Put-in-Bay Camporee so that we know how many scouts we can take
  • August 4th is the deadline for Patrol leaders to turn in the Patrol Award sheets prior to the summer Court of Honor

Memorial Flag Posting & Retrieval

It is an honor for our Scouts to post flags at the grave sites of our veterans. Each year for Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day we post flags and then the following week retrieve them.

Flag posting: May 22nd, 5:00 PM
Flag Retrieval: May 29th, 5:00 PM

Participating in posting and retrieving the flags count as service hours and gets you double Super Scout points! Please come in full field uniform (Class A).

Summer Camp Meeting – Tuesday, May 21st

There will be a summer camp meeting next Tuesday, May 21st at Acree Hall from 6 to 7 PM. This meeting will cover what to bring to camp, gathering camp schedules, and go over the plans for camp. The scouts that came to the short informational after the troop meeting have their schedule sheets and can turn them that night.

It is extremely important that you make this meeting if you are going to camp. The scout and at least one parent/guardian should attend. If you can not attend, please contact Mr. Wood to let him know.

Swim Tests Signups Available

All scouts who will participate in any aquatic program with the troop this year must pass a swim test. Note that the summer camp we are attending will host a swim test when we arrive, so it is not necessary to come to these tests if you are going to summer camp, though you are welcome to.

Get signed up for a night online.

Memorial Day Parade – May 26th

It’s a tradition for the troop to march in the Memorial Day parade in Florence! We walk the route from the Boone County High School down to the government center and hand out candy to the spectators. It’s usually a ton of fun and it also help show our community our scouting spirit. This year Pack 727 and Crew 727 will also be along with us. Please look for additional information as we get closer, but mark it off in your calendar for Monday morning. We are usually showing up 9 AM and done around 11 or 11:30 AM.

First Aid Merit Badge

Each year we set up the opportunity for any scout to earn the First Aid and Swimming merit badges. First Aid will be taught by Mr. Davies and will meet at either the Boone Co. Fire Training Center or the Boone Co. Sheriff’s office. The sessions for First Aid will be on the following Sundays:

  • June 2nd – 12 PM – 3:30 PM
  • June 9th – 12 PM – 3:30 PM
  • June 23rd – 12 PM – 3:30 PM

If you have church services that would keep you from arriving at the start, that’s okay, just let us know. Scouts should expect to complete the merit badge if they attend all three sessions and come prepared.

To register for First Aid, please Sign up!

Sports Day! – June 1st

The next troop day event is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st. This is a Sports day event scheduled from 9 AM to 3 PM. It will be held at a local Boone County Park. Scouts will be asked to bring a small sack lunch, and a water bottle. More information will be released soon, but please sign up!

Put-in-Bay Trip – Sept 6-8th, 2019

On the annual plan is a trip up to the Camporee held at Put-in-Bay during the first weekend of September. This is a decent sized trip for us, and requires us to have several adults and drivers. In the past we leave around noon on Friday (yes, this does require the scouts to get a pass from school and adults to take off a partial day) in order to make it up in time.

The cost of this trip will $95, which includes the $85 for the camporee, plus $10 to help offset the cost of gas and travel. Scouts will be asked to bring some cash to eat lunch on the way up, and lunch on the way home.

What do we do at this camporee? We explore a bit of the island, go up in the Perry’s Monument, visit the nature center and can do cave tours. There’s also an ice cream shop and we can participate in the Put-in-Bay historical parade if we’d like. They feed us very well, so no cooking required on our end.

In order to know how many scouts we can take, we need to know how many drivers we have. I’m putting out the word early to request parents who wish to come with us to sign up. Any adult going will need to have current BSA Youth Protection and Virtus training. If you have any questions, please let Mr. Wood know.

The number of drivers and volunteers we have will determine just how many scouts can go. We would like to have our list of adult drivers by June 30th.
